Eileen Pryor
MAR
I have been interested in natural remedies for years and when my son was small I would always look for an alternative to antibiotics for him, wherever possible. In fact he still remembers the black cough syrup I gave him and the effect it had - so much so that as an adult he looks for it himself when the need arises!
That interest naturally led to finding out more about complementary therapies which was kick started when I was given a voucher for a Reiki treatment at a very stressful time in my life. I found it very relaxing and releasing and wanted to find out more about energy work, so I studied Reiki I and Reiki II with the lovely lady who had treated me - I particularly love the Reiki Principles. From there, I started to look at Reflexology, which also works on energy and Meridians; I did a 6 week introductory course which I found fascinating and wanted to take the full course to become qualified, but couldn't find either the time or resource to make it happen. However, an unexpected and sudden enforced career change gave me the impetus to enrol with the Oxford School of Reflexology to take the course they were running in Glastonbury in 2005, which was accredited by the Association of Reflexologists - I'd always wanted to go to Glastonbury, so it seemed as if the time was just right for me. I had a wonderful year, completed all my case studies and qualified in July 2006. I was delighted to be asked to join Jenny's team at Fairoak last year.
I firmly believe that the root of a lot of illness is stress based - modern living brings stress into our lives that did not exist 50 years ago and anything that we can do to reduce that stress has to be beneficial to our health. Reiki and Reflexology are both wonderful treatments that can help to reduce stress levels and bring the body back into balance.
I have also undertaken courses in Thermo Auricular Therapy (Hopi Ear Candling) and Aqua Cleanse and am currently studying for a diploma in Holistic Body Massage in summer 2009. In 2009 I hope to extend my Reflexology knowledge base by taking courses in Meridians and Maternity Reflexology.
